SEASIDE DISTRICTS OF GDAŃSK

SEASIDE DISTRICTS OF GDAŃSK

District division of the city does not raise any interest. It is a solution which allows to precisely partition the agglomeration. Every district has its own distinct features. The city of Gdańsk, thanks to its location, takes pride in districts with the access to the sea, differentiating itself from the administrative division of the majority of other metropolises in the country. Gdańsk is situated next to the Baltic Sea and the mouth of a Motława river (where Motława enters into Wisła) on the Gdańsk bay. Access to the sea allows both citizens and tourists to enjoy their leisure time on nearby beaches, the picturesque landscape helps relaxation. The beatches of Gdańsk are wide, sandy and cleaned up every day during high season.  Bins for waste segregation can be found there. Most of the beaches are given the “Blue Flag” certificate every year, proving the quality of the water.

The first district worth mentioning in Brzeźno- lies in the north part of the city, one of the most popular bathing areas of Gdańsk can be found there. Brzeźno is washed with the waters from Gdańsk bay from the north. Located there wooden pier has been built in 1900 measures 136 metres. Brzeźno is full of attractions for the youngest ones like slides, trampolines and beautiful Ronald Reagan Park with the biggest in Tricity playground- Kraina Zabaw. Brzeźno is rich in many restaurants and pubs, so it is not difficult to conclude that access to the sea is a big influence on that district. According to the statistics Brzeźno is inhabited by nearly 6 thousand people. Panorama of that part of Gdańsk is incredibly charming, example includes “Miła”-fishing street.

Another seaside part of the city is Jelitkowo, located near Potok Oliwski, in the administrative district of Żabianka-Wejherowo-Jelitkowo-Tysiąclecia, with the sea harbour and bathing area. The fishing village has existed there since 1480, so the district has quite long and interesting history. The name probably originates from the founder and the first settler- Jelitko. Many tourist attractions can be found there: Jelitkowski park created in the beginning of the 20th century, old fishing houses and extremely long bike route ending in Brzeźno.

Stogi is an eastern district of Gdańsk, it lies on Portowa Island. Residental area is surrounded with The City Forest, from the North West bordered with Sączki, meadows of the coastal belt. Stogi has its own neighbourhood council and till 2011 it created the district “Stogi z Przeróbką” together with another district- Przeróbka. Pusty Staw- one of Gdańsk’s lakes is located there.  Seaside district cannot be complete without bathing waters. Stogi is inhibited by around  12 thousand people. The citizens can enjoy many facilities such as Saint Family Roman Catholic Church or the marina “Tamka”. The northen port is also situated there.
