Christmas Fair in Gdansk

Annual Christmas Fair has started on 23^th November 2019. It is located on the Coal Market in Gdansk. It is known not only by people from Gdansk, but also by people from all over Poland and by foreigners. For many families, visiting this market in christmas time is almost a tradicion.

Every year, Christmas Fair is more and more improved and embellished. Streets are prepared especially for this event: Czekoladowa Street, Wigilijna Street, Cynamonowa Street and Anielska Street. The unique atmoshere is created by music, awesome atractions (for younger and older people), but mainly beautiful stands with christams ornamentations, warm sweaters and skarfs, hand-made decors and food – the smell accompanies visitors all the time.

Entering the fair, can we see an Advent Gate, which is illuminated with lamps and shining stars. After crossing the Gate, there appear christmas stands and music, which tune poeple for magical sightseeing. Since 2019 new tradicion has started – it’s an enormous Advent Calendar. One of the windows opens every day of advent at 5 p.m.

It’s worth to say about amazing atractions. One of them is a „Santa’s Magic Sleigh – flight simulator”. Another one is a big Snow Ball, where visitors can feel an amoshere of snowy Christmas.

In the center of the fair is located a Good Wishes Square. Around it, there are placed stands with delicious (polish and foreign) dishes. Visitors can try also mulled wine – it makes pleasant time in the cold air.

Several times during th fair, are organisated the parades. A main role is playing there by a Santa Claus. Children can meet and watch winter, fairy-story characters like elfs or wife of the Santa Claus. The meeting with Santa is the best atracion for the youngest and takes place on 6^th December. Children have possibility to talk with him and ask for christmas gifts. They can also participate in workshops and prove themself in creating christmas decorations.

One of the most important information about the Chrismats Fair is a charity campaign for the Hospice Foundation and a collection for rescue St. Nikolas Basilica, which is endangeres with destruction. During christmas time, the Fair makes an opportunity for visitors to give someting truly from heart and support poeople, who need this.

The Christmas Fair in Gdansk is the obligatory place to visit. The event lasts to 1^st January 2020. In a contest „Best Christmas Markets”, this fair gets 3^rd place for the most beautiful fair in Europe. Allowing for this distincion, you can imagine yourself an annual beauty of this special event.
